Introducing: Westward Wandering Co.
A while back, over on the blog, we shared a post asking what was next. We have been seeing the cultural shift out here in the Black Hills, the trends taking shape, the localism explode. The Uprising has been happening, and we are pleased to see that.
The goal of Dakota Uprising was always to ignite a local movement and express a challenge to share our lifestyle out in the Black Hills a little differently so it didn’t always involve Mt. Rushmore or buffalo or the Sturgis Rally, although those are certainly great things as well. We challenged you on instagram to share your experiences in the hills, we challenged you with the shop to ‘wear’ this area differently, and to raise the bar on connecting creatively.
We have decided to launch some new initiatives that have been fizzling in the back of our minds. And the time to do all of that is now.
The name, Dakota Uprising, was chosen because uprising meant “a movement or the act of rising up” and Dakota referred to a location-based term because we wanted to focus on local. The term Dakota Uprising will live on as history only, rather than a local clothing line. We’ve also felt for awhile now that the name, Dakota Uprising, has put us into a bit of a box and we’ve been wanting to break out of that box.
A New Name for a New Frontier
We are excited to announce that our new name will be Westward Wandering Co.
A name that originates from my story, the story of dating long distance from Sioux Falls to the Black Hills to be with my man, and eventually, permanently wandering westward when we got married at Sylvan Lake last year.
A name that will let us include our other favorite places out in the world in new designs (raise your hand if you love Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona?!) We can’t wait to wander westward. Hope you are excited to as well.
Also, the new hashtag we will be using going forward is #westwardwandering. We are abandoning the #dakotauprising hashtag. Join us on Instagram!
Still Your Favorite Black Hills Clothing Co.
Everything you love about the brand will not change. We will still represent our favorite places in the Black Hills, take you on hikes with us, and share stories of local businesses and creatives. We will just be expanding our designs in all directions to new frontiers. And we are excited about it, to be honest. Things you, also, can definitely be excited about. Pivoting the strategy without changing the vision.
We apologize if you noticed we went missing for a few weeks. We needed some time to regroup and put the wheels in place to keep this company moving forward.
Give Us Your Thoughts & Ideas!
What places out there would you like to see represented? Any favorite words or phrases?
As always, thank you for supporting this brand.
Forever grateful, and see ya out there,
Westward Wandering Co.
